Twite

It's been a good start to 2020, in particular the arrival of a handful of Twite onto the reserve. Previous to this, there only appears to have been one single observer record from the mid 00's. The birds are being seen feeding with Linnet on the islands in front of the Ron Barker Hide. We are not sure what the maximum count is so far but at least 4 birds are involved.

Birding around the Sewage Works produced at least 2 Chiffchaff, 4 Goldcrest, Bullfinch, 30+ wagtail and Woodcock, the latter flushed from the footpath.

Check out the ditch that runs between the Harrier and United Utilities Hides as 3 Water Rail have been seen. note the route can be a little muddy as the tractor uses the road way there.

A small male Peregrine has been very active over the past couple of days, putting the 1000+ Lapwing into the air on regular occasions. Green Sandpiper is over wintering on site, 69 Ruff, 5+ Black-tailed Godwit and 10+ Snipe.
