Unusual nest site gives eggs-tra challenge to our duckery warden
Our duckery warden Phoebe Young has her hands busy at this time of year checking on all the young bird families in our grounds.
She is used to them choosing to nest in unusual places, but this year one goose couple has chosen to build their nest underneath the Mesolithic hut at back from the brink.
She said: “it is good to check that all the eggs are fertile, this nest has three fertile eggs so that is great and the parents are doing well. It wasn’t easy to reach it as it was about 12 foot in and was a very narrow space.
“In my years as a warden I have seen some unusual nesting sites but this one certainly took me by surprise!”
However Pheobe was not very impressed when the cameraman took this shot of her struggling to reach the nest to check the eggs!!
