Watch for warblers

The sun is shinning this morning and with very little wind, the tops of the trees in front of the Holden Tower and the hedgerow along the Summer Walkway are alive with warblers on the move.

Holden Tower

A mix of warblers were seen this morning including Reed Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Garden Warbler and Whitethroat.  A Reed Bunting and 2 juvenile Bullfinch were also seen along with 3 Linnet.  A Marsh Harrier was on the Dumbles.  A Green Sandpiper was on the pool to the south of the tower.

South Lake Hides

At least 170 Black-tailed Godwit were roosting on the islands this morning along with an Avocet, 27 Redshank, 3 Ruff, 50+ Lapwing and a single Green Sandpiper.  A Little Grebe was on the deep lake amongst the Gadwall, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Mallard and Teal.  A Crane was at the Hogarth Hide end of the wader scrape.

Rushy Hide

At least 6 Green Sandpiper were present this morning along with 3 Black-tailed Godwit, a Ruff, 2 Redshank, 2 Snipe and 19 Lapwing.  Three juvenile Little-ringed Plover are now here too.

Zeiss Hide

High tide today is around 11:30am so check then for the largest numbers of waders.  Early morning saw 12 Dunlin and 9 Ringed Plover present with brief views of what may have been the Little Stint.
