Wednesday's sightings

A small team from WWT Conservation and BU Global Environmental Solutions (BUG) from Bournemouth University are out on the reserve today survey our eel population and helping us understand more about them and inform what we can do to improve the reserve.  We were also joined by BBC Breakfast this morning to showcase the work.

Rushy Hide

A single Spotted Redshank was on the back of the lower pond this morning with 97 Teal, 2 Grey Wagtail and 2 Snipe.

South Lake Hides

Despite the survey work the wader scrape remains busy with 88 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Spotted Redshank, 27 Redshank, 13 Ruff, 153 Lapwing and 12 Shoveler present along with a Grey Heron.

Robbie Garnett Hide

Three Redshank were nestled in amongst the Lapwing and Teal on the island in front of the hide.

Zeiss Hide

High tide pushed in a selection of waders including 143 Dunlin, 11 Ruff, 3 Golden Plover, 137 Lapwing and 3 Black-tailed Godwit.  Duck included 52 Pintail, 41 Wigeon, 250+ Teal and 4 Snipe were also counted.
