Weekend of 16-17 September sightings
A real change in the weather came into effect today, heavy rain and easterly winds with temperatures more akin to the average for this time of year. Highlights included the following.
Sunday 17 September
South Lake
Three Cattle Egret early morning, they were seen among cattle in the Bull Ground later in the day, following the work last week the lake bounced back to normal with 220 Teal, 49 Shoveler, 4 Snipe, 3 Pintail, 31 Gadwall, at least 11 Ruff, 2 Redshank, 189 Black-tailed Godwit, 53 Lapwing, drake Pochard, 32 Tufted Duck and 18 Cormorant among the birds noted.
Middle Point
The Whinchat was still on the fences and sticks today.
Top New Piece
A juvenile Wood Sandpiper, 5 Spotted Redshank (they moved to the Rushy), 3 Ruff, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, Marsh Harrier, 4 Spoonbills but a large flush has moved the birds with the latter heading out to the estuary.

Up to 15 Ruff, a few of the 5 Spotted Redshank moved back here, 10 Redshank, a Green Sandpiper, a Kingfisher, 5 Gadwall, 60 Teal, 2 Snipe, 42 Mallard and 6 Shoveler.

Two Ruff, a Snipe, 8 Shoveler, 140 Teal and 3 Little Egret.
Long Ground Pool
Two Pintail among the dabbling ducks.

Middle Point
Curlew 35, Knot 3, Dunlin 200+, Sanderling 2, Ringed Plover 13, Spoonbill 4, Little Egret 4, Grey Heron, Great Black-backed Gull 8, Shelduck 100+, Whinchat and Wheatear on cross fence.
Rushy Hide/Peng Observatory
Avocet (also seen on the Severn), Spotted Redshank 4, Ruff 12, Redshank 5, Black-tailed Godwit 170, Snipe 1 and a Cattle Egret.
South Lake/Discovery Hide
190 Teal, 50 Shoveler, 13 Tufted, 15 Gadwall, 1 Pochard, 363 Greylag, 1 Barnacle and 1 Canada goose, 169 Black-Tailed Godwits, 8 Ruff, 2 Snipe, 4 Cormorants, 1 Grey Heron.
