Wetland Calligraphy at Southery Primary School
On Wednesday 18th September, the Flock Together project went and visited a Southery primary School. With us we took our usual array of paraphernalia, including swans wings and Bob the Bewick’s swan, but also loads of wetland materials so that the class could take part in some wetland calligraphy.
First, we found out why wetlands are important and some of the pressures they now face with our increasing human population and our needs for food, water, clothing and many other things. Pupils took part in ‘the wetland washing line’ as well as refreshing their memories on the water cycle.
For the creative part of the workshop, pupils now in the 'wetland mindframe' were asked to choose some wetland materials and use them with the addition of some sparkly paint, to write down a wetland related word.
Things got pretty messy!
After each pupil had wetland calligraphy-ed their word we headed outside to see if we could make a poem out of them!
This is how it went...
