Wetter for Waders Update
We are delighted to announce that we are now fully staffed for the The Species Survival Fund project on site with 4 new members of the team. Over the past couple of weeks we have welcomed Project Manager Jessie, Assistant Engagement Officer Olivia, and Assistant Wardens Katie and Kathy.
You might see us out and about counting and identifying! As part of the Species Survival fund project we are carrying out wildlife monitoring to get baseline data before we begin making large scale habitat improvements. Great crested newts, including lots of larvae (known as 'efts'), have been found in freshwater on both Stockland Marsh and up in Bridgwater Bay.
More information about the planned habitat improvement works and engagement projects will be coming over the next few weeks, so watch this space!
This project is funded by the Government's Species Survival Fund. The fund was developed by Defra and its Arm's-Length Bodies. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency.
If you’d like to get involved with the project, please drop us an email at info.steart@wwt.org.uk to find out more.
In the meantime, don't forget the following date for your diary:
Dragonfly Day at Steart Marshes, Wednesday 21st August, 11am-3pm. We are planning a fun day of walks, activities, craft, and learning all based on dragonflies! More details coming soon.
