When should the whooper swans arrive?
The graph below shows the numbers of Whooper Swans during weekly dawn counts in 2012. From beginning of October onwards we should start to see a steady increase in whooper swans arriving at Martin Mere (although the first ones have arrived at Martin Mere already). Generally speaking we get our peak numbers of Whoopers in the cold spells during Dec and January although last year we had a peak count of 2480 on the 10th Dec (not shown on graph). During the winter months the wardens at Martin Mere carry out swan feeds and talks which gets you up close to these brilliant birds at 3pm and 3.30pm.
