White-fronts and Yellow-brow

Another classic autumn day with plenty of bird action throughout. Two European White-fronted Geese dropped in around 1pm with Pink-footed Geese. Record day counts of this species have been recorded along the East Coast in recent days so it's possible more birds will accumilate over the coming months.

A good raptor day with 3 Marsh Harrier, 4+ Common Buzzard, Peregrine, 2 Sparrowhawk and 2 Kestrel. Two Raven also present.

A (the?) Yellow-browed Warbler was heard calling down the Nature Trail Path and possibly headed into the Waterfowl Gardens just after midday.

The usual waders with 800 Lapwing, 20+ Ruff, 60+ Snipe.

A (the?) Ross's Goose has been reported at Marshside yesterday. Will this bird end up at Martin Mere for another winter? Have we dismissed it as an escape too readily?

As usual it should be possible to see at least 50 species of bird in a day without too much effort, although a telescope is very useful from most of the hides.

If you are visiting the reserve, pop in to the in focus shop (next to the Discovery Hide) where we have a full list of birds, and should be able to point you in the right direction to get the most out of your visit.
