Whooper Swans

Today's newly arrived Whooper Swans sleeping off the journey.

The first juvenile Whooper Swans of the Winter (2 adults and 3 juveniles) arrived yesterday, followed by another family late morning today. Landing on the Mere, the whole family of 2 adults and 4 juveniles immediately went to sleep and stayed that way until about 4pm when they woke up and flew across to the other side of the reserve, joining yesterday's arrivals on Vinson's Marsh.

Marsh Harrier, Common Buzzard and Peregrine are still being seen regularly.

The most obvious waders around at the moment are Lapwings, with several hundred on and around the reserve. Ruff, Black-tailed Godwit and Common Snipe are also present, but in much smaller numbers !

Several thousand Pink-footed Geese are coming in to roost every evening, with many hanging around the area throughout the day.
