Wigeon in the fog

A very foggy start has made counting difficult this morning but a few birds could be picked out.  With the forecast sun, it should burn off soon to reveal the birds.

Rushy Pen

Over 100 Teal could be seen on the scrape along with a single Wigeon and 6 Snipe.  The Ruff were too far back and into the fog to see, but at least 5 birds were present.  Other waders included a very showy Green Sandpiper in front of the hide and at least 11 Lapwing.  A Grey Wagtail was in the Chilean Flamingo pen next to the Rushy.

Knott Hide

A few warblers could be seen along with hedgerow including lots of Chiffchaff and several Blackcap.  At least 5 Bullfinch were also present and a Cetti's Warbler was calling from the reedbed.

South Finger Hides

The Wigeon numbers are starting to build with 51 present this morning in front of the Van de Bovenkamp Hide along with a few Teal, Shoveler, Tufted Duck and Mallard.  A Grey Heron was also stalking the waters edge.  The Top and Bottom New Pieces were lost in the fog so we'll check later to see what was hiding.

South Lake Hide

A similar story here, the fog too dense for counting but Black-tailed Godwit and Lapwing could be seen (just!).  A small charm of 15 Goldfinch were feeding at the entrance to the hide and at least 3 Chiffchaff were buzzing along the hedgerow.
