Wild, windy, wetlands
It has been particularly wild recently, with strong winds and rain battering the reserve.
The Folly Pond has been particularly busy with big numbers of Teal and Wigeon which has attracted predators, Hen Harrier and Marsh Harrier can be seen hunting them most weeks and even a Goshawk last Sunday was causing havoc!
Redwings and Fieldfares are regularly in the Avenues now, or flying overhead.
Up to 10,000 Barnacle Geese are in the local area, making use of all the available foraging opportunities in the surrounding fields.
Likely two Great Egrets are on the merse most days, and a regular female Goldeneye on the Whooper Pond is a nice addition.
Please be aware that due to ongoing Coronavirus restrictions we have a limit to the numbers of visitors we can accommodate on the Reserve. To avoid disappointment we advise visitors, including Members, to book online before arrival. Booking can be done via the Caerlaverock website https://www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/caerlaveroc...
