Wildlife Sightings for 10th January 2025
Bearded Tit, Bittern and Shelducks on main lake, Water Pipit on the marsh
1 Bearded Tit - main lake NE shore
1 Water Pipit - marsh
1 Bittern - flew across main lake towards the reedbed
2 Shelduck - main lake
2 Little Grebe - main lake
71 Lapwing - main lake
62 Shoveler - Reservoir Lagoon
The December Water Rail survey found 18 calling birds across the reserve - reedbed, reservoir lagoon, main lake, sheltered lagoon, wildside and scrape.
Bitterns can be found either on the north shore of the reservoir lagoon, or any of the main lake shores where there is a reed fringe.
Look for Siskins and Redpolls feeding in birch or alder trees (particularly wildside and sheltered lagoon). The south route feeders are attracting plenty of mixed finch species daily.
Wintering Bearded Tits arrived in December and can often be found in the main reedbed or the main lake reed fringe (especially near the Headley Hide).
