Wildlife sightings for 17th October 2022

Autumn ducks and golden leaves

Birds:

2 Dartford Warblers- wader scrape

2 Stonechat - reedbed

2 Reed Bunting - reedbed

1 Pintail - reservoir lagoon

16 Chiffchaff - wildside, south route

2 Green Sandpiper

35 Lapwing- main lake

12+ Cetti's Warbler - singing around site

40+ Wigeon - some with very smart plumage

50+ Teal - some with very smart plumage

15 Meadow Pipit - wader scrape, south route

Large formations of flying ducks over the reserve whilst the team were opening up this morning. c100 Shoveler on the wing, deciding whether to land or not. Many landed and can be seen feeding in most corners of the reserve. Lots of Canada Geese and Greylag Geese are also on the lakes in the mornings. Great crested grebe bob and hunt among dabbling Teal and diving Pochard. Birch and Poplar trees all over the reserve have turned a golden yellow and the reds of turning Guelder-rose and Dogwood set off these colours to create a vivid display and some wonderful backdrops.
