Wildlife sightings for 20th September 2022

Barn Owl through the reserve. 3 Green Sandpiper on the lakes. Chats still migrating through.

Birds

1 Barn Owl - flew north west mobbed by 15+ crows

1 Sparrowhawk - hunting on wader scrape

1 Whinchat - reservoir lagoon

1 Stonechat - reservoir lagoon

3 Green Sandpiper - reservoir lagoon, main lake

2 Little Egret - main lake

2 Snipe - main lake

16 Wigeon - reservoir lagoon, main lake

30+ Lapwing - main lake

30+ Chiff Chaff - feeding in sallow all around the reserve

6 Meadow Pipit - grazing marsh, south routes, main lake

5 House Martin - main lake


1 Clouded Yellow Butterfly - grazing marsh


A lot of winter migrant species on the move. We are seeing an increased number of Teal, Shoveler, Gadwall and Wigeon settling down and feeding on the main lake, reservoir lagoon and sheltered lagoon.

Dragonflies/Damselflies: Common Blue Damselfly, Common Darter, Willow Emerald Damselfly, Ruddy Darter, Migrant Hawker, Brown Hawker.
