Wildlife Sightings for 2nd April 2025
Good day for waders with Snipe, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Redshank and Jack Snipe on the reserve
1 Jack Snipe - flew from wader scrape to reservoir lagoon
3 Common Snipe - wader scrape
1 Common Sandpiper - reservoir lagoon
3 Green Sandpiper- 2 on the wader scrape, 1 on the main lake
2 Redshank - marsh
2 Oystercatcher - main lake
1 Little Egret - wader scrape
10 Sand Martin - across site
9 Chiffchaff - across site
7 Blackcap - reservoir lagoon, sheltered lagoon, wildside
The late-March Water Rail survey found 10 calling birds across the reserve - reedbed, reservoir lagoon, main lake, sheltered lagoon, and wildside.
Dunnock, Wren, Robin, Cetti's Warbler, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Great Tit and Reed Bunting are all singing across the reserve from every patch of scrub and hedgerow.
Butterflies and other insects (end of March)- Early Bumblebee, White-tailed Bumblebee, Honey Bee, Red-tailed Bumblebee, Tree Bumblebee, Green Hairstreak, Peacock, Red Admiral, Brimstone, Small White, Small Tortoishell, Comma, Speckled Wood, Bee-fly, Hoverfly sp.
