WWT Washington Wetland Centre is thrilled to announce it has won the ‘highly commended’ award in the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year category at the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2013.

The accolade means our 45-hectare nature reserve and visitor centre – home to an abundance of wonderful wetland wildlife and habitats – is now officially the FOURTH BEST in England!

Excited team members collected the award on behalf of all WWT Washington’s dedicated staff and volunteers during a glittering ceremony at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club, in Manchester.

Acting centre manager Gill Pipes said: “To be deemed the fourth best small visitor attraction in England is fantastic and truly reflects the ethos of the centre and the people who work here.

“As well as the tireless physical work which goes into creating and maintaining such a diverse site, we strive to be warm, welcoming and thoughtful and I believe it is this which encourages the affinity with our site that many visitors express.

“There are some amazing tourism destinations across both our region and the whole of the country and to be recognised among these is a real treat for us all.

Sue Gill, commenting on the win on behalf of Welcome to Excellence, sponsors of the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year Award, added: “Welcome to Excellence is delighted to sponsor the ‘Small Visitor Attraction of the Year Award’ because we have a passion for great customer service and we believe these attractions exemplify exceptional rather than acceptable standards of service.

“Congratulations to WWT Washington Wetland Centre, who are worthy winners and we wish them continued success”.
