Your support gets wetland wildlife on TV
Thank you to all our supporters, as always, for helping to save wetlands in the UK and around the world. Wetlands are so important for wildlife – and for ourselves – and your support really does make a difference.
This Sunday on Countryfile (BBC1, 7pm) you can see a range of the work you’re supporting. You’ll see the latest from our Bewick’s swan research and the hard work that volunteers and staff do to make our reserves as welcoming as possible for overwintering birds.
ITV’s equivalent, Countrywise, recently featured the thousands of wild swans at Welney. BBC1 Breakfast based its mild weather coverage at London Wetland Centre. The art and history of Slimbridge recently featured on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip (16 mins in). Blue Peter filmed our Lego animals arriving at Martin Mere. And Caerlaverock of course hosted Autumnwatch.
Coming soon, ITV Meridian are covering water voles at Arundel, UTV’s Lesser Spotted Journeys will be visiting Castle Espie, while S4C’s Tinopolis will be at Llanelli.
This TV coverage is important for wetlands because it reminds people how valuable these places are to ourselves and the wildlife around us. This Tuesday is World Wetlands Day, on which organisations around the world will be promoting wetlands, and here at WWT we’re doing our bit to support the global effort. Happy viewing!
