Forage for an Autumn harvest
Foraging & Fire-lighting Walks, September 21 at Arundel Wetland Centre
Learn how to reap nature’s bounty this autumn at Arundel Wetland Centre. Take a gentle walk with Jonathon Huet, a bush craft instructor with a classical woodland traditional approach to the art of foraging. As the leaves start to fall, the berries and fruits of the wild harvest are all around us. Forage through the reserve with Jonathon to learn which plants can provide food, medicine and other natural resources to enrich our lives. Then learn the bush craft way to light a fire and use foraged ingredients in a simple recipe.
Visitors can also glide through the reed beds in silent electric boats to view rare water voles from the colony re-established in 2005 and photograph wild birds from one of the many hides – including our new ‘Discovery Hide’ which is a comfortable new hide featuring ID panels, binoculars and telescopes to help beginner birdwatchers.
As well as attracting wild birds, the site is home to a collection of 250 birds of rare and endangered species from around the world. You can even hand feed some of them, including the friendly Hawaiian Nene goose.
The Foraging & Fire-lighting walk is two hours long on Sept 21. Book either a morning or afternoon slot at £10 per person, but space is limited so please book in advance. Call 01903 881530 to book.
