Last weeks warm weather seems to have caused a trickle of early migrants. Sand Martin and Swallows have passed through and Chiffchaff have been singing in most areas of the reserve.

Friday there was a very early Sedge Warbler singing in the reedbed, at least a week earlier than last year!

First Willow warbler of the year this morning.

Birds of prey over the hanger have included up to 4 Red kite, 2 Peregrines, up to 8 Buzzards, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk.

Swan lake:  34 Tufted duck, 4 Pochard, 2 Grey Wagtails, 1 Kingfisher, Mallard ducklings

Ramsar and Sand martin hide: 5 Lapwing, 9 Shelduck, 4 Gadwall, 3 Tufted duck, 2 Grey lags, 2 Oystercatchers

Lapwing hide: 10 Teal, 8 Lapwing, 6 Greylag, 14 Canada geese, 2 Gadwall

Scrape hide: 1 Reed bunting, 2 Canad geese, 2 Gadwall, 4 Shelduck, 1 Teal

Reedbed: 1 Snipe, 3 Reed bunting, 2 singing Cettis warbler, 1 Water vole

Reserve generally: Bullfinch (one male singing this morning), Blackcap, Nuthatch, Grass snake, Brimstone, Small tortoiseshell, Peacock, Red Admiral, Orange tip, various Bumblebees, Beefly, Marsh marigold, red and white dead nettle, lesser celandine, Ladys smock, Coltsfoot and Sallow.
