Boxing day sightings

Rising water levels didn't dampen the wildfowl out on the scrape areas with plenty of displaying Teal, 28 Shoveler, 40 Snipe, 10 Shelduck, 3 Pochard, 19 Tufted duck, 10 Lapwing, 8 Cormorant, 1 Grey heron, 16 Gadwall, 2 Little grebes and a Kingfisher!

Another Kingfisher was showing really well at the Outlook in thatched buildings perched on the railings and the thatch, glowing in the winter sunshine.

Bullfinches and Water rails were showing well in various places around the reserve.

The extra bird activity brought a brief visit from a Marsh Harrier, seen from the Sand martin hide.

Please be aware that flood water levels are currently rising so check our website for current updates. Some parts of the reserve are closed and unlikely to reopen in the short term.
