Happy new year.

The new year started today with a frost.

Wetlands discovery produced a Barn owl roosting outside the purpose built box at first light before disappearing inside around 8.45am. A mixed flock of Goldfinch with Siskin (10) were feeding on the alder cones and Tufted duck and Pochard were on the waterways.

A really good mix of birds around the rest of the reserve with highlights being a lovely male Pintail, Shoveler (19) and Wigeon (3) all from the ramsar hide.

Water rail were showing well with one each at wetlands discovery, Lapwing hide and scrape hide.

Kingfishers being seen in most of the usual spots as well as a regular on the front entrance pond today, as well as a Water vole here and in the reedbed.
