Icy mornings increase wildfowl numbers

Cold weather has increased the numbers of wildfowl onsite. We counted over 100 lapwing on the back island from the Sand Martin hide on Tuesday 29 Dec and Wed 30 Dec.

Tues 29 Dec

Ramsar & Sand Martin hide: 40 greylag geese, 21 teal, 2 grey heron, 34 shoveler, 6 tufted ducks, 4 cormorants, 7 shelducks, 5 coots, 101 Lapwing, 3 mute swan, 17 mallards, 5 moorhen, 1 pochard, 31 snipe, 3 gadwall, 14 black-headed gulls.

Mon 28 Dec

Lapwing hide: 11 teal, 3 moorhen

Sand martin & Ramsar hides: 76 lapwing, 26 snipe.

Sun 27 Dec

Wetlands Discovery: 2 Kingfisher, 1 coot, 2 pheasant, 4 Canada geese, 3 tufted ducks, 13 mallards, 1 pochard.

Sat 26 Dec

Arun Riverlife lagoon: 4 greylag geese, 1 moorhen, 2 coots, 1 gadwall, 4 pochard, 1 tufted duck, 37 mallard, 18 Canada geese, 47 black-headed gull

Wetlands Discovery: 1 little grebe.

Ramsar & Sand Martin hide: 48 lapwing, 8 snipe, 5 shelducks.

Thurs 24 Dec

Reedbed: 37 malards, 2 mandarin ducks, 1 kingfishers.

Arun Riverlife: 3 pochards, 9 lapwing, 4 wigeon.

Wed 23 Dec

Lapwing hide: 2 lapwing, 1 wigeon, 5 shoveler, 23 mallards, 1 tufted duck, 1 kingfisher.

Reedbed: 1 kingfisher.

Woodland Loop: 1 nuthatch, 1 marsh tit.
