Kingfisher gems

Although Kingfishers have been showing well around most of the reserve, for those who can be prepared to wait, there is the chance of seeing an individual which has been using the perches in front of the sand martin hide. Morning and late afternoon seem to be the best times but this could be down to more movement in the hide during the busy parts of the day.

Sand Martins continue to pass through the reserve although in smaller numbers than the past few weeks. This week has seen up to a dozen, daily, checking out the nesting banks of the sand martin hide.

Duck numbers have been fluctuating with the noticeable rise being in Tufted duck.

Flowering plant of the week is the lovely purple/blue flowers of Devils bit scabious. See if you can spot them on wetland discovery.
