Osprey appearance

A juvenile osprey was sighted fishing at the deep scrape at Arundel Wetland Centre on Sunday. Juvenile ospreys have darker, less distinct head markings and pale edge to their wings.  The bird spent the day making low and high passes giving the visitors at the Ramsar hide and Sand Martin hide many opportunities for photos of young predator. I saw the osprey make three dives for fish, and find success twice. The osprey retired to the dead beech tree on the Offham Hangar too eat his catch. This tree is a favourite perch for our regular the peregrine pair as well. On Monday the osprey was still showing around the reserve again and we hope to see more of it. Last year in early September we had a juvenile osprey spend three days at Arundel on its migration south.
