Pochard on every pond

Pochard can be spotted from every hide most days. Lapwings are still displaying and two pairs of oystercatcher are starting to appear at Ramsar hide and on Arun Riverlife lagoon. Large numbers of black-headed gulls onsite but most are juveniles and will move off when breeding season starts, a few common and Mediterrenean gulls are mixed in.

Here are recent sightings by WWT wardens – not all areas of the site are recorded every day and not all wardens record their sightings. Common species are not always noted here.

Sun 8 March
Ramsar hide: 11 lapwing
Lapwing hide: 5 lapwing
Wetland Discovery: 2 pochards, tufted ducks, coots, greylag geese, mallards.

Sat 7 March
Lapwing hide: 4 lapwing
Arun Riverlife: 75 black-headed gulls, 2 lapwing, herring gulls, common gulls, tufted ducks, coots, greylag geese, mallards.

Fri 6 March
Lapwing hide: 6 lapwing, 1 oystercatcher
Ramsar hide: 14 lapwing, 3 pochard
Tundra Pen: 2 oystercatchers
Sandmartin hide: 4 pochard.
Scrape hide: 4 pochard
Woodland Loop: 5 blue tit, 3 great tot, 1 great spotted woodpecker, 1 pheasant, moorhen, 2 goldfinch, 4 chaffinch, 1 robin, 1 song thrush.
Arun Riverlife lagoon: 4 tufted ducks, 2 pochard, 1 lapwing

Thurs 5 March

Reedbe: 1 songthrush, 2 long-tailed tits, 1 Cetti’s warbler

Ramsar hide: 2 lapwing, 1 kingfisher
Lapwing hide: 5 lapwing.

Tues 3 March
Arun Rverlife: 3 pochard, 1 lapwing.
