Two pairs of Sand Martins confirmed

We have confirmed that two pairs of sand martins are active in nest holes on the Sand Martin hide. Here are last week's sightings around the reserve by WWT wardens:

17 June

Lapwing Hide: Tufted Duck 1Plus 9 ducklings, Lapwing 2, Cuckoo 1 Calling


18 June

Lapwing hide:Lapwing 1 Juvenile.

Reedbed Track: Cuckoo 1


19 June

Sand Martin Hide: Martin 6, Swift 2, Oystercatcher 2 Plus 2 chicks,

Tufted Duck 1 Plus 4 ducklings.

Lapwing Hide: Cuckoo 1 Calling, Lapwing 3 Plus 1 chick.


20 June

Ramsar Scrape: Mute Swan 3 Cygnets, Cormorant 1.

Sand Martin Hide: Tufted Duck 4, Oystercatcher 1 Plus 1 chick, Redshank 1.

Woodland Lodge Hide: Water Rail 1, Mute Swan 2.

Arun Riverlife Lagoon: Tufted Duck 3, Pochard 1

23 June

Lapwing Hide: Lapwing 4 Including 1 Juvenile.

Sand Martin Hide: Sand Martin 3

Ramsar Scrape: Swallow 5 Feeding near lagoon.


Wet Meadows: bee orchids, pyramidal orchids.

Butterflies: marbled white (photo), meadow browns, ringlet, painted ladies, large skipper.
