Wildlife sightings

The cool dry weather has brought in good numbers of wildfowl with a high of 25 Shoveler ( the most recorded here since 2003), 10 Wigeon as well as 14 Bewicks Swan (roosting overnight). A single Dark bellied Brent put in an appearance yesterday and today and seems to be following a flock of Canada geese. Water rails have been showing well with the harder weather making them more intent on feeding than being wary of visitors.

The Kingfishers have continued to show well in most places around the reserve with two in front of the Sand martin hide this morning chasing each other with much whistling.

Bullfinches are very much in evidence with one particular group of 10 individuals in the scrub near the Ramsar hide on Tuesday.
