Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Reserve Update Saturday 28th October

While Whooper Swan numbers at the feeds are remaining at around 60 birds, we are noticing a change in individuals with new leg rings being recorded daily.  The Great White Egret was down along the Saltcot Merse again yesterday and some visitors were also lucky enough to spot a Male Hen Harrier and a Ringtail.  There was a flock of 16 Little Egrets on the Back Pond first thing this morning.  Newfield Hide is once again worth a visit with Barnacle Geese close in as well as large numbers of Curlew, Lapwing and Black-tailed Godwit, there was even a Snipe visible at one point yesterday.
