Barnies are Back!
The Barnacle Geese are now starting to make an appearance on the Reserve, with over 1,000 birds counted from the Tower this morning. They are predominantly utilising the mudflats and pioneer merse so are best seen from the Saltcot Merse Observatory. Mixed in the flock is a single leucistic bird so far and it will be interesting to see how many of these return this year. Also to be seen out on the Merse are a number of Little Egrets and the Great White Egret. There are still good flocks of Pink-footed Geese as well, with a large grouping observed feeding in the fields to the north just off the reserve yesterday afternoon (best seen from Farmhouse Tower).
