Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Blackcaps are loving the elderberries

Please be aware, the B725 is closed at Brow Well bridge. If you are visiting from the Carlisle/Annan direction you have to come via Dumfries. The bridge has suffered severe damage due to recent flooding and may be closed for a significant amount of time.

It was lovely to see Blackcaps feeding on elderberries from the Back Pond hide this morning. Several raptors were seen from the Avenue Tower; a male Peregrine and a female Sparrowhawk were making the nearby Teal jumpy! Plenty of Tufted Duck and Shovelers are present on site and Black-tailed Godwit can be seen on the Folly Pond.

And of course the surrounding fields are still absolutely filled with Barnacle geese!

High Tide: 18:59, 7.5m

Opening times:
10am - 5pm every day except Christmas Day
