Hares on the Pasture Pathway
Brown hares have been very active around the reserve recently. One was seen this morning on the newly opened pasture pathway. This is a new route going through the fields that links the Avenue Tower to the Saltcot Loaning. It is also a good place to spot Roe deer, including some of our family groups. Unsurprisingly given the active Brown hares, we have also been seeing quite a bit of Red fox activity. Two cubs can often be observed at a distance down near the Avenue Tower. Other evidence of their presence comes in the form of fox scats along the Avenues and Meadow Walk! Our Avenue Tower badger sett is currently showing lots of use with recent diggings in some of the entrance holes. Last night two badgers were seen on the webcam at 19:30 so do be sure to tune in to that. To finish up the mammal round up we have also caught a brief glimpse of an otter out on the River walk so do keep your eyes peeled for them if you head out that way whilst visiting!
