Latest Sightings - 15th September - Autumnal feel to the day
More Autumn migrants are arriving on the reserve. There are Pink-footed Geese dropping in every day, with small flocks coming high from the north to land on the merse and mud of the Solway. Keep an eye and an ear out for them!
These northerly winds could also bring out first Whooper Swans down from Iceland, we have heard of them arriving in northern Scotland in small numbers over the past few days.
There is now more of a variety of wildfowl on the Whooper Pond. Joining the regular lone Whooper Swan, Mute Swans and Mallards are Wigeon, Tufted Duck, Shoveler and Gadwall. All of these building in number.
The Folly Pond still has a lot of mud showing which has been attracting waders on migration. Black-tailed Godwit and Ruff being a regular sight along with the occasional Green Sandpiper.
