Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Little egrets on the merse

While out on the merse this morning, the reserve team counted 9 little egrets out on the saltmarsh.

While out on the merse this morning, the reserve team counted 9 little egrets on the saltmarsh with a backdrop of calling barnacle geese and redshanks. Other sightings include a ringtail hen harrier over the flood ground, and along the avenues we have had a record count of 30 yellowhammers! Our latest barnacle count was roughly 7,000 and we are seeing consistently high numbers of whoopers on the pond, between 80-100 every day, including 16 juveniles.
