Reserve Update Wednesday 10th May
It is that time of year again when we start the breeding bird survey around the Reserve. Sedge Warblers have been well represented down the Avenues with 16 singing males on the way to Avenue Tower. We have also discovered where all the Whitethroats have been hiding.....within the Gorse next to Saltcot Merse Observatory. Listen out for them when you are down there.
Elsewhere, it has been Hare central here this morning with one feeding in the Paddock area and two more spotted from the Avenue Tower. The Hawthorn has begun flowering and the bankings are lined with Ramsoms, Bluebells and Red Campion which are providing a nice nectar source for all the Orange-tip Butterflies.
