Roe Deer and Hawthorn Blossom

Roe deer are much in evidence at the moment with sightings even from the Loaning and Avenue. The new Hawthorn growth is tempting them to venture in closer. The Hawthorn itself is looking lovely with the May blossom peaking. Where we have done works to manage the hawthorns down the Loaning the fruits of our work are starting to show nicely. The lower section nearest the Saltcot Merse Observatory, which was cut a couple of autumns ago, is now starting to sprout nicely. This provides more shelter and opportunities for nesting birds this time of year and also helps prevent the hawthorns from being blown over in any summer storms.
