Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Shoveler numbers increase!

It has been lovely to see that our duck numbers starting to increase! 65 Shoveler were spotted on the Folly Pond this morning and 10 Tufted Duck have been busy on the Whooper pond. Our male Shovelers are looking more striking every day as they develop their breeding plumage. The Whooper pond was especially exciting this morning as an otter was seen feeding around the edge of the water.

There are still plenty of Barnacle Geese both in the surrounding fields and on the merse. It was very exciting watching the birds from the Farmhouse Tower earlier as the presence of a Marsh Harrier, Peregrine and an Osprey filled the skies with nervous Barnacle Geese!
