Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Sightings - 05/07/2017

The highlight of the morning was a juvenile Garganey that was found in the Lochar field, viewable from the avenue tower. The bird was very elusive in the long grass but can be picked up using a scope from the top floor of the tower. The field has flooded nicely and also held 40+ Teal, a number of Gadwall and the Lapwing flock continues to build now reaching 106 birds.

A female Gadwall and 2 ducklings are on the Teal Pond, this is the second known breeding event of the year. Also the Spotted Flycatcher is still showing well on it's usual fence line by the entrance to the summer walk halfway down the avenue.

Todays high tide is at 10:51, 7.9m
