Sightings - 30/06/2017

A pair of Spotted Flycatchers are still down the avenue, spending most of their time about half way down to the tower. They are however, being extremely illusive and only being seen a couple of times a week.

In other news we are starting to see some movement of breeding birds, groups of Curlew have started dropping into the reserve, Teal numbers have built up to around 20 birds on the Lochar field, along with 40+ Lapwing. There was a roost of Oystercatchers out on the Solway this morning, possibly consisting of failed breeders.

Also down the avenue this morning, there was a mixed flock of Goldcrest, Long-tailed Tits and two Treecreeper. Along with an adult and juvenile Great-spotted Woodpecker, that presumably bred nearby.

Yesterday we saw our first fledgling Black-headed Gull on the flood ground and there are still two fairly large chicks on one of the rafts.
