Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Sunshine on Geese

Huge numbers of geese in the sunshine around the local area today. Canada, Greylag and Pink-footed Geese can be seen feeding in the fields and flying around the reserve.

6 Barnacle Geese were in front of the Saltcot Merse Observatory yesterday, no sign of them yet this morning but we have had reports of more arriving over Budle Bay in the past few days.

Lapwing and Snipe are still enjoying the muddy margins of the Folly Pond and there are lots of Butterflies and Dragonflies on site; a Migrant Hawker was seen yesterday.
