Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Swans and a Scaup

Whooper Swan numbers are holding up well now, as the colder weather has brought them in from the surrounding fields. 75 on the Pond this morning.

A male Greater Scaup is amongst the 30 Tuften Ducks on the Whooper Pond this morning, along with 48 Mute Swans, 36 Canada Geese, 158 Mallards, 76 Wigeon and 6 Teal.

Two pairs of Bullfinch are in the Saltcot Loaning again today, watch for their white rumps as they flit ahead of you.

Yellowhammer numbers are slowly increasing with over 10 now being seen regularly in the hedges.

Please be aware that due to ongoing Coronavirus restrictions we have a limit to the numbers of visitors we can accommodate on the Reserve. To avoid disappointment we advise visitors, including Members, to book online before arrival. Booking can be done via the Caerlaverock website https://www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/caerlaveroc...
