Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Wigeon on the Increase

Wigeon numbers are on the increase with 137 counted on the Folly Pond this morning and more down at the Flood Ground. Teal numbers are also creeping up with over 400 on the Folly Pond, another 400 in the Corner Field and yet more down at Flood Ground. All of this duck activity is really drawing the raptors in with the Peregrine making itself at home down at Flood Ground and also a sighting of a Marsh Harrier from Avenue Tower. Good numbers of Shelduck and Curlew are feeding out on the mudflats, just behind the grazing Barnies. Tides are creeping up to over 9m this weekend so could be good time to have a watch from Saltcot merse Observatory.
