Gil Stewart Exhibition
Gil Stewart attended school in Belfast where he encountered internationally acclaimed painter, actor, playwright and founder member of the lyric theatre, Sam McCready who worked at that time as an art teacher in his school.
Encouraged by Sam to paint from a formative age, Gil’s work reverberates with deeply imprinted memories and draws on sketches from childhood visits to his family's rural and impoverished Irish homeland. Gil’s paintings reflect his roots in the striking and often desolate beauty that forged much of the character and collective memory of the people of Ireland.
