Autumn migration update
Migration season is in full swing here at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre, with huge numbers of birds flying down from their northern breeding grounds to spend the winter here, or just to stop for a rest before continuing their journey. We have enjoyed sightings of hundreds of migratory wading birds, including black-tailed godwit, greenshank and redshank, and now the ducks are following them, with good numbers of wigeon, shoveler and teal arriving on the reserve.
As well as our regular annual visitors, we’ve also been treated to some very special bird sightings recently, including up to five glossy ibis which have been around for three weeks, frequent sightings of a spoonbill, and the reappearance of the lesser yellowlegs, which first arrived at the centre on 7 July!
