Behind the scenes tours offer close up duckling encounters at Llanelli Wetland Centre

Downy Duckling Week is back at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre this spring half term!

This exclusive, one week only experience will take visitors behind-the-scenes to our ducking nursery to meet newly hatched fluffy ducklings!

You can enjoy a special egg-to-duckling experience at Llanelli Wetland Centre from 27 May to 4 June with tours running throughout the day.

This popular, unforgettable experience includes a chance to meet our tiny baby ducklings up close in the indoor nursery and see their older brothers and sisters in the outdoor nursery.  You can even meet them before they hatch as we use a special process called “candling” to give you a sneak preview of baby ducklings still inside their eggs. Who knows, you may even see one hatch!

Richard Edwards, Grounds Manager at WWT Llanelli said:

“Downy Duckling Week offers families a fantastic opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and discover more about life in the egg and get up close to our newly hatched ducklings. Our daily tours never fail to amaze!”

As well as enjoying a duckling experience (tours run daily at 12pm, 2pm & 3pm) you’ll spot lots of different, fluffy babies toddling around your feet as you enjoy our grounds and children (and grown-ups alike) love feeding them.

There’s also a whole host of other fun family activities at our centre this spring half term including a chance to meet Dusty Duck’s* celebrity friends on our NEW trail.

Find 14 celebrity-designed GIANT models around our grounds including Steve Backshall’s Explorer Dusty, Smarked’s (Sam and Mark’s) Tiger Dusty and Joanna Lumley’s absolutely fabulous Patsy Dusty.

Children of all ages can also enjoy hunting for creepy crawlies and discover what lies beneath the murky waters of our ponds in our mini-beast hunt and mini-pond dipping sessions that run every morning at 11am. For those in search of their own adventure, self-guided den building is available all day where you can spend hours building a den from willow and wood. Plus there’s indoor fun at our craft corner where you can make your own souvenir to take home (small charge to cover costs).

All activities, including the Downy Duckling experiences and Celebrity Dusty Duck trail are included in the cost of admission and free to members. Just book on to a tour at the information desk on arrival.
