Construction work is ongoing to replace the old footbridge to the reserve. An alternative route is available, but the Heron's Wing and Peter Scott hides will be closed until the work is complete. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Final flamingo chick has hatched!
There are now five flamingo chicks to see at WWT Llanelli!
Chicks number 1 and 2, both hatched on the morning of 25 July (to different parents), have grown a huge amount and are doing very well. They are both wandering around a great distance from their nests. They have now reached the age where they will start to spend some time away from their parents, most likely with each other, as flamingo chicks are normally found together in crèches after 15 days old.
Chick number 3 hatched on 3 August and was soon standing up and trying to get out of the nest! It also seems to be doing very well and is always at the side of one of its parents, usually begging for food!
Chick number 4 hatched on 6 August, but didn’t have the best start. After starting to tap on its eggshell it suddenly stopped, and there were fears it might not survive. Two days overdue, the tiny chick finally managed to break its way out of the egg, but was very small and weak. It is now much stronger and doing well.
The final chick hatched on Monday 13 August, and is also doing well. To get the latest information on our flamingo chicks and see them up close through the telescope, you can join us for our flamingo watch and talk, every day during the school summer holidays at 1pm.
