Migration excitement recording at Centre
Breathtaking numbers of two impressive wading birds have been spotted at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre this week, with centre-record numbers of Greenshank and Black-tailed Godwits offering a spectacular sight to visitors.
Visitors can expect to see over 1,000 Black-tailed Godwits from the Centre’s British Steel Hide as well as over 80 Greenshanks that have been recorded during this peak time for migrating birds. Huge numbers of Knot, Redshank, Curlew and Lapwing add to the spectacle.
Dr Brian Briggs, Senior Reserve Warden at WWT Llanelli said: “Autumn is a fantastic time to visit our wetlands as our reserve teems with life as we welcome an abundance of migrant visitors. We’re lucky to have resident godwits at WWT Llanelli but it’s fantastic to see centre-record numbers of this bird and just in time for our popular, annual High Tide evening event this week”.
The High Tide event at WWT Llanelli on Friday 16 September offers a spectacular, after-hours, close-up encounter where visitors can see how the high tide transforms the landscape, pushing huge numbers of birds in front of the hides. Learn more from an expert guide and also enjoy a buffet back
at the visitor centre. Advance booking and payment is essential. Adults £15/children £10 and those attending should arrive for a 5pm start with the buffet being served at around 6.30-7pm.
