Spectacular Sights Expected at High Tide Watch

20150905-WWT3

Summer’s not over yet! Before the nights draw in, make the most of spectacular sights and sounds at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre’s High Tide evening event on Friday 16 September.

Breathtaking numbers of birds are expected to gather in front of the British Steel hide in the early evening at the Wetland Centre in Llwynhendy, as the high tide transforms the landscape, flooding the reserve with different species of birds.

This after-hours, close-up encounter is a real treat with an expert guide on hand to help you identify the many species of birds and waders. Some will be leaving after a summer spent at Llanelli, others looking for a home for winter or some just on a flying visit. Highlights could include colourful kingfishers, little egrets, black-tailed godwits, greenshank, knot and curlew.

Nigel Williams, Centre Manager at WWT Llanelli said: “High Tide Watch is one of the real highlights of our events calendar and personally, it’s one of my favourite times. What’s great is you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy the event, it’s suitable for everyone and we love to see families enjoy the reserve at its best. Autumn is a great time to visit our wetlands as we welcome an abundance of migrant visitors. The reserve teems with life as huge numbers of wading birds fly into our lagoons and the high tides in September push them in front of the hides which is always a stunning, seasonal spectacle for visitors.”

The evening also includes a buffet back at the visitor centre. Advance booking and payment is essential. Adults £15/children £10 and those attending should arrive for a 5pm start with the buffet being served at around 6.30-7pm.
