A group of Swansea children from Portmead Primary School enjoyed a sneak preview of Flamingo Bay this week, WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre’s new outdoor play area.

The children from year 3 and 4 were the first children to try out the colourful, new play area which has been funded by People’s Postcode Lottery (PPL) before the official opening on Saturday 22 October.

The children had been enjoying an educational visit to WWT Llanelli, learning more about pond creatures and going on minibeast hunts before being the first children to visit Flamingo Bay! The children commented, “We LOVE everything”, “My favourite is the climbing frame”.

Kelly Lewis, Marketing Officer at WWT Llanelli said: “It’s fantastic to see the children enjoying the play area so much! The climbing net has been a real hit and the children have loved burying the flamingo eggs in the sand and using the sand sieve and pulley. We’re looking forward to Captain Jack Sparrow officially opening the play area on Saturday”.

Visitors will be encouraged to dress up in their pirate best for the official opening, and take part in a special pirate treasure trail that will be available everyday during half term. Face painting and awesome pirate accessory crafts will also be available to complete the pirate adventure.

Other activities available at WWT Llanelli every day during half term include family favourites; pond dipping, mini beast hunts and guide in the hide sessions as well as opportunities to make a bat box during drop in sessions on Wednesday 26 October.
