The countdown is on, how many wildlife species will you find?
The countdown is on, WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre need your help to find and identify as many different species of birds, plants, bugs and beasties as possible in one day during the Bioblitz event on Saturday 10 June.
The event is part of a series of activities to celebrate Wales Nature Week, an annual week of wildlife-themed events that takes place all over Wales and is a great chance for visitors of all ages to get involved in a real-life wildlife survey.
Experts will be on hand throughout the day to lead different surveys and help you get up close and identify a whole range of wonderful wildlife. Activities throughout the day include, a reptile walk, moth identification and recording, a dragonfly and butterfly recording walk, minibeast hunts and pond dipping. You may even see some wild mammals up close on a mammal survey, as well as signs of otters and water voles (including lots of poo!)
The day also offers an exclusive opportunity to join a guide for a walk on the saltmarsh – normally inaccessible to visitors - to identify saltmarsh plants and look for creatures such as sea slaters and crabs!
At the end of the day all records will be collected before we calculate the total number of species seen.
As part of Wales Nature Week, WWT Llanelli also has a special Walk with a Warden to look for wildlife highlights on the reserve on Thursday 8 June at 11am and a late-night, guided bat walk on Friday 9 June (now fully booked).
